UK’s newest rising star goes by the name of Jorja Smith and boy is she making waves. Jorja Smith is an uber-talented singer who was first introduced to the world as a feature on Drake’s album More Life. She stood out instantly on the song “Get It Together” and she hasn’t looked back since. Jorja has been featured on many songs since then, one highlight being the Kali Uchis song “Tyrant”, another good record. Jorja has a powerful voice that allows her to stand out from the rest. This is my first time using the “New Artist” title for a blog but it seemed like there was no other way to introduce this artist than by calling him a “new artist”. He goes by the name of Tone Stith and he is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter/producer hailing from my hometown,
Houston, TX, he is actually from the tri-state area, just not sure where. Tone Stith was first introduced to the world when he received writer and producer credits on the 2015 Chris Brown hit, “Liquor”. I love reading writing credits and all that so when “Liquor” came out, I remember going to Wikipedia and first discovering Tone Stith that way. I’m almost positive I then searched for him on Instagram and began scrolling from there. Tone Stith is signed to Young Empire Music Group, which is run by Jas Prince.
Tone Stith is an R&B singer and to me, he’s not like any of the other male R&B singers out right now. Tone Stith has actual vocal talent, vocal ability, unlike many of these mainstream R&B singers, and that’s not shade, it’s just facts. I find myself not enjoying many of the current male R&B acts right now, but Tone Stith’s music is not like what I have been hearing from the others. Again, I love his voice and I love his writing style. He has old school lyrics with new school beats. I think Tone Stith can make some head way in this industry, especially with the likes of Drake cosigning you. Last week, Champagnepapi posted to his Instagram a video of Tone Stith rehearsing while covering his song, “Maddiba Riddim”. I loved the cover, I felt he gave “Maddiba Riddim” a new life with the way he sang it. I hope to be hearing more from Tone Stith very soon and also, check out his EP titled Can We Talk on all streaming services.

ATTENTION! PSA! Kali Uchis will be releasing her debut studio album very soon! I repeat! Kali Uchis will be… yeah she just released her first single from her debut album.
As of right now, there is no album title or release date for Kali Uchis’ debut album but what I do know is that the album is coming soon. Last year, Kali released a song called “Only Girl” featuring Steve Lacy and that song lead many of us to believe the album was on the way… not quite. Kali released that song April of 2016 and we are now at the end of May 2017. That’s not the point though… the album is near this time, I know it and she starts this Untitled album era off right with the song “Tyrant”. “Tyrant” features British singer Jorja Smith (who was featured on Drake’s album More Life) and this song is wow. First, I must ask… has Kali Uchis missed yet? No. Second, I’m so happy she put Jorja on this song, she’s sooo dope to me.
“Tyrant” has so many different flavors. It is dancehall-like, but Kali is also singing in Spanish at various parts in the song. It’s just a song that instantly makes you want to dance. Kali and Jorja are both singing about a love that they never want to let go of and I guess the title comes from the lyrics basically saying that neither wants to let the other have control of the relationship. Oh yeah, I love Jorja’s voice, I’m ready for her solo project. She was great on “Get It Together” with Drake and she makes another strong case for herself with “Tyrant”. Two amazingly dope female artists. #GirlPower
There is no album title or release date for Kali Uchis but I will make sure to post about it when it is released or whatever. If you haven’t already, listen to Kali’s solo project that “put her on the map” if you will, it’s called Por Vida. It’s on every music outlet so go listen, you won’t be disappointed.
I am going to try my hardest not to make this review too long but I can’t make any promises.
Drake released his latest project, which he so selectively called a “playlist”, on March 18th titled More Life. After many release delays, Drake finally released the anticipated project and of course shortly after the release, everyone turned into a rap critic. It’s something about Drake, for some reason he’s the one that is doing things that have never been done in this current music world that we live in and it’s like, people don’t like him for it. I’ll get to all this later on. Continue reading ALBUM REVIEW: ‘More Life’
Has it really been 7 years? Continue reading A Review: 7 Years Later
It’s weird… when I listen to old Drake songs, sometimes I wish I could un-listen so I could hear the song for the first time again and enjoy it that way. Drake has sooo much music that it’s hard to go back and listen to the old music but sometimes you need a Drake refresher. Continue reading #TBT: Drake- “Dreams Money Can Buy”
Let me preface by saying this… 2010 is an incredibly underrated year for music. I couldn’t decide for the longest which album/mixtape to review. The options were endless from Erykah Badu to Jazmine Sullivan to Rihanna to Kanye West. My top choices were Rihanna’s Loud, Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Trey Songz’s Passion, Pain, Pleasure plus a few other good candidates. I even considered Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream. Of course I had to decide on one… and that one is Nicki Minaj’s debut album, Pink Friday.
