I saw SZA live in concert last night!

szathree.png

Since SZA released Ctrl back in June, the album has been in heavy rotation. I listen to at least one song from that album everyday, still. The album has such relevance and is just so relatable. Being that Ctrl is one of my favorite albums of the year, it was only right to see SZA in concert right? My friends and I bought the tickets a few months ago and have been anticipating the concert since the album release. On October 3rd, The Ctrl Tour finally made its way to Houston and man did the city come out to see SZA. Continue reading I saw SZA live in concert last night!

NEW SONG & VIDEO: Jorja Smith- “On My Mind”

UK’s newest rising star goes by the name of Jorja Smith and boy is she making waves. Jorja Smith is an uber-talented singer who was first introduced to the world as a feature on Drake’s album More Life. She stood out instantly on the song “Get It Together” and she hasn’t looked back since. Jorja has been featured on many songs since then, one highlight being the Kali Uchis song “Tyrant”, another good record. Jorja has a powerful voice that allows her to stand out from the rest.  Continue reading NEW SONG & VIDEO: Jorja Smith- “On My Mind”

NEW SONG: Daniel Caesar- “Hold Me Down”

Up and coming R&B star Daniel Caesar released his debut album, Freudian, on August 25th. The album was anticipated by many R&B music followers and the album did not disappoint. Daniel Caesar has this classic, old-school-like R&B sound that many have been waiting on. There are many male R&B acts today but none like Caesar. It’s the delivery, how he uses his falsetto, and the instrumentation he adds to make his songs that much better. Continue reading NEW SONG: Daniel Caesar- “Hold Me Down”

NEW SONG: Lil Uzi Vert feat. Pharrell- “Neon Guts”

And I gotta colorful auraaaa like I got neon guts.

Lil Uzi Vert just released his debut album, Luv Is Rage 2, and there is one song on the album in particular that stands out from the rest and it’s called “Neon Guts” featuring Pharrell Williams. Anyone that listens to Lil Uzi Vert knows he’s a big fan of Pharrell and the music he produced in the 2000’s. When I read the track listing I was surprised to see Pharrell featured on the album but also happy for Lil Uzi because I know he’s a huge fan of Pharrell. Them on a track together, I wasn’t expecting much just because I figured their styles would clash on a song… but I have to remember this is Pharrell we’re talking about. ALBUM REVIEW: Amine- ‘Good For You’

amine-good-for-you

Before going into this album, I’m going to address a question that many are probably asking themselves. So, who is Amine? Amine (uh-MEEN-ay) is a 23-year-old rapper from Portland, OR… I know, random huh. I do not have the full backstory on him but those are the basics that I do know about him. He began releasing music in 2014 with his debut mixtape Odyssey to Me, another mixtape in 2015 titled Calling Brio and then his debut single “Caroline”, released in 2016. “Caroline” went on to peak at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and the song also reached triple-platinum status. So early success for the young Amine. Continue reading ALBUM REVIEW: Amine- ‘Good For You’

NEW VIDEO: Kendrick Lamar & Rihanna- “LOYALTY”

Kendrick Lamar has dropped another visual, this time it’s featuring Rihanna! Kendrick released his video for his song featuring Rihanna, “LOYALTY”. I love seeing Rihanna in videos so I was so happy when the video dropped.

The video is really dope, it’s like an “action” themed video. Kendrick is like the only one right now that is actually releasing VISUALS to go with the song. This video keeps you watching and I just love seeing Rihanna… and Kendrick, they’re a good duo.

NEW ARTIST: Tone Stith

This is my first time using the “New Artist” title for a blog but it seemed like there was no other way to introduce this artist than by calling him a “new artist”. He goes by the name of Tone Stith and he is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter/producer hailing from my hometown, Houston, TX, he is actually from the tri-state area, just not sure where. Tone Stith was first introduced to the world when he received writer and producer credits on the 2015 Chris Brown hit, “Liquor”. I love reading writing credits and all that so when “Liquor” came out, I remember going to Wikipedia and first discovering Tone Stith that way. I’m almost positive I then searched for him on Instagram and began scrolling from there. Tone Stith is signed to Young Empire Music Group, which is run by Jas Prince.

Tone Stith is an R&B singer and to me, he’s not like any of the other male R&B singers out right now. Tone Stith has actual vocal talent, vocal ability, unlike many of these mainstream R&B singers, and that’s not shade, it’s just facts. I find myself not enjoying many of the current male R&B acts right now, but Tone Stith’s music is not like what I have been hearing from the others. Again, I love his voice and I love his writing style. He has old school lyrics with new school beats. I think Tone Stith can make some head way in this industry, especially with the likes of Drake cosigning you. Last week, Champagnepapi posted to his Instagram a video of Tone Stith rehearsing while covering his song, “Maddiba Riddim”. I loved the cover, I felt he gave “Maddiba Riddim” a new life with the way he sang it. I hope to be hearing more from Tone Stith very soon and also, check out his EP titled Can We Talk on all streaming services.
